The Frankensteins’ Outrage
… But as he was drowning, (Pharaoh) cried: ‘I believe there is no God except Him whom the Children of Israel believe in, and I submit to Him as a Muslim. (It was said to him), ‘Now? But a little while before, you were rebellious and were of the corrupters?’ [Qur’an 10:91-92]
As we enter the twentieth month of the systemic crushing of a defenceless people in Gaza, day by day, house by house, family by family, breath by breath, beneath the most savage cruelty wielded in modern time, genocide is the indelible mark of notoriety and the legacy of the last apartheid entity on Earth – Zionist Israel – a nation that has blackmailed the conscience of world powers into silence, complicity, and cowardice.
For twenty months, Zionist supporters within governments and the media have denied, covered up, obfuscated, justified, and actively supported, both in word and in print, Israeli war crimes in Gaza. They are the Frankensteins of this horror, tens of thousands of innocent lives old, championing and defending the unconscionable acts of a monstrous ally while they could cling to the pretext of “human shields” to excuse the inexcusable and shift the blame for mass slaughter.
For seventy seven days, they backed the blockade by a “democratic state” of food, water, medical care reaching a desperate civilian population of two million, knowing full well the inevitable result of this fellowship of evil: long and agonising deaths through mass starvation. They relied on their monster state to censor the harrowing pictures and footage, hoping the world would remain blind. Where SEVENTY THOUSAND Palestinians burned alive and torn to shreds by Western-supplied munitions crossed no red lines, it is the haunting images of emaciated children and babies – barely living corpses – that have finally provoked faux outrage from political and media figures who once proudly aligned themselves with Zionist policy.
Why now? They hold no sympathy for Palestinians – wedded, as they are, to Israel’s brutal occupation and machinery of oppression, both dictated and driven by a backward, supremacist colonial mindset. Deliberate starvation is a blatant violation of international law and irrefutable evidence of war crimes. The pro-Zionists who cast their lot with Israel – even as it committed crimes against humanity – are now inextricably tied to these egregious crimes – hence their fear and eleventh-hour crocodile tears, a last-ditch attempt to decouple themselves and whatever they have left of a reputation from the enduring notoriety of complicity. But the die is cast, and history does not forget. Their reckoning will be nothing short of a day in court for enabling war crimes.
These nineteen months of holocaust of Gaza didn’t happen because good people did nothing. It happened because cowards – despicable now and forever – in positions of power and influence traded truth for silence and humanity for profit and comfort. However visceral our anger, the Palestinians have chosen to endure with nothing but divinely inspired patience, and Islam commands us to do the same.
You who have believed, be steadfast in your devotion to Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of others to you prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is well aware of all that you do. [Qur’an 5:8]
