Planning Permission granted for the New LIC Development

It is with immense joy that we announce planning approval of the redevelopment of the Lewisham Islamic Centre by Lewisham Council.
First and foremost, we express our deepest gratitude to Allah (God) Almighty, in whose hands hope and beneficence never fail, who makes the remotest possibilities attainable, and who has enabled this milestone to become a reality for us all.
This journey from then to now has been a twenty-five year transformative one for our community. We are eternally grateful to every member of the congregation for their patience, steadfastness and unwavering belief and support in the vision of providing a spiritual home for the Muslims of the London borough of Lewisham and beyond.
We are deeply grateful to Lewisham Mayor Brenda Dacres, the borough Councillors, and the Lewisham Planning Department. Their engagement, guidance and support throughout this process have been invaluable in shaping, refining, and ultimately securing approval for this development.
To our dedicated architect, Mohammed Afaq, and his team, and to our project consultant, Alban Cassidy, whose commitment, expertise, professionalism, and wisdom have faithfully guided this project every step of the way, we extend our heartfelt thanks.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to our long-suffering neighbours, whose patience, understanding, and forbearance throughout this journey have meant more to us than words can express. Their goodwill and resilience have been a true testament to community spirit. We thank them wholeheartedly for standing with us.
As we embark on this new chapter, we know that the hard work is only just beginning, but we look ahead with optimism and a renewed sense of purpose. A building is only as strong as the people that occupy it, which heartens us greatly, for we know that the diverse and faithful Muslim community of Lewisham is our greatest strength. Their steadfast commitment to Islam and pride in their identity ensure a legacy and posterity for generations to come.
The Lewisham Islamic Centre will remain the beating heart of Lewisham – a place that serves, uplifts, and welcomes the whole community, not just Muslims. With unity, vision and faith, we look forward to building a brighter future together.
