LIC Press Release – Iran & Lebanon Beneath the Hubris of Zionist Oppression
Yet again, and now sustained over 3 weeks, we are witnessing unprecedented tyranny, terror and oppression unleashed on our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters in Iran and Lebanon by America and its confederate, Israel. And worse still is the savagery because it began unprovoked while betraying diplomatic headway being made with Iran, and more so callously during the holy month of Ramadan, entirely dismissing Islamic and Muslim sentiments.
The maiden strike on a girls’ primary school which killed 168 children, teachers and parents, set the intent of the attacks – domination, not enrichment or elevation of the people of Iran. Since then, residential districts, energy plants, hospitals, police stations, banks, civil society, innocent men, women, and children have been targeted. Masses who have not chosen war are relentlessly being bombed daily with thousands of lives being lost, while the region’s future is being determined by the hubris and military pomp of a US-Israel alliance pursuing a nihilistic Zionist-driven agenda.
Allah (God) The Almighty has stated in the Qur’an, {And think not that Allah is unaware of what the oppressors do. He only grants them respite until the day the eyes will stare in horror}[1]. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stated that Allah Almighty, in a Qudsi narration, said, ‘Oh my servants, I have made oppression forbidden on myself and made it forbidden amongst you so do not oppress one another’,[2] and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, ‘Beware of committing injustice, for injustice will be excessive darkness on the Day of Resurrection’.[3]
While many respected foreign affairs and geopolitical experts and analysts, including military and weapons experts have repeatedly clarified that there was no military threat from Iran, making this war unjustified and an aggressive action criminalised under international law, incontrovertible corroboration was provided by the US head of counter-terrorism, Joe Kent, whose recent resignation because of the war publically declared in his resignation letter that Iran posed ‘no imminent threat’ to the US, and claimed the US instead ‘started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby’.[4]
It has unfortunately become challenging for some Muslims to take a clear stance against this oppression carried out against Iran and Lebanon due to recent intra-Muslim political history. The reality is our history, broadly speaking, is full of intra-Muslim differences, conflict and wars. Whether Sunni or Shia, we cannot let these differences prevent us from taking a clear stance against oppression and standing firm upon our principles. Standing with the oppressed does not excuse them of past crimes. Allah says, {O believers! Stand firm for Allah and bear true testimony. Do not let the hatred of a people lead you to injustice. Be just! That is closer to righteousness. And be mindful of Allah. Surely Allah is All-Aware of what you do.}[5]
It is very noteworthy to remember that Zionism allies with no one, and will inveterately hunt with the hounds and run with the foxes to attain its supremacist goal, and we exhort Muslims to not let their differences be the means by which Muslim nations are entirely subjugated.
Lewisham Islamic Centre stands firmly in opposition to the oppression being waged against Iran, Lebanon, and the inhabitants of the region. LIC also encourages Muslims and all people of conscious to be united and vocal in calling out injustices taking place, whether in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, The West Bank, Sudan or any other part of the world.
