With the Coronavirus Pandemic dominating all public newsfeeds, the Lewisham Islamic Centre is happy to report even more vindicating Truths, that timeless panacea compelling falsehoods into submission, and no different are those manufactured and malicious media types.
“Nay, We hurl the Truth against falsehood, and it knocks out its brain, and behold, falsehood doth perish!…”
(Qur’an 21:18)
In January 2019, a number of papers including the Telegraph, Times, Mail Online and Express Newspapers all published false and defamatory articles concerning the Lewisham Islamic Centre and its Scouts Leader, Ahammed Hussain. The papers had already apologised to the Lewisham Islamic Centre and Alhamdulillah (all thanks and praises are for God) following legal action each paper has been compelled, kicking and screaming, into issuing full retractions. Ahammed Hussain has now not only received apologies, but also substantial compensation – read more about it here.
Fake news is also a virus deliberately spread to infect and darken many unsuspecting minds. We recall it was the Telegraph who broke the concocted “story” with the self-confessed eager and willing assistance and delight of Nikita Malik of the Henry Jackson Society. While to Machiavellian fake news mongers: “the end result justifies the means”, however ignoble those means. We maintain the Quranic directive:
“O you who believe, be aware of God and speak only the truth”.
(Qur’an 33:70)
By the help of Allah (God) Almighty alone, the Lewisham Islamic Centre will remain a popular bastion for UK Muslims; and given that the Henry Jackson Society is a UK charity, we shall be raising this serious matter, and others, with the Charity Commission who must surely have regulatory concerns regarding their practice.
Lastly, we pray that Allah Almighty keeps everyone safe and protected during these very difficult times afflicting all communities across the world.
