Lewisham Community Joint Statement

Lewisham Community Joint Statement on Violent Disorder

“The attack in Southport last week was devastating and our deepest condolences go out to all the families affected by this horrific incident and to the whole community.

We as community leaders condemn the violent thuggery and criminal disorder that we have seen across the UK. Those who are intent on stoking disorder and division are not welcome in our communities and they do not speak for Lewisham or Britain.

We are proud that Lewisham was the first UK Borough of Sanctuary and that our community continues to be welcoming to migrants and stands in staunch opposition to Islamophobia, violence, racism, and anti-Semitism.”
